Americas poisoning the atmosphere PDF Print E-mail
The land of North America - Canada, Mexico and the USA - a year goes into the atmosphere several billion kilograms of toxic chemicals. 90 percent of the pollution produced by plants belonging to flood 15 different industries! The fact is that the total quantity of toxic substances emitted into the atmosphere from a few years clearly declining. The latest report setting out the air pollution generated by the three countries of North America (next to Canada and the USA, including Mexico), published by the CEC - U.S. Commission for Environmental Cooperation, the 2005 year. The data shows that in 2005 into the atmosphere - which covers areas of North America - went more than 5 kg and a half billion (!) Different types of toxic chemicals. Interestingly 90 percent of that pollution is only 30 chemicals, which are manufactured by 15 different industries. According to CEC largest in the U.S. are chemical plants, mines and steel mills. In Canada, inglorious leader leads the petrochemical, steel, and - surprisingly - related to the waste water treatment and water treatment. Contrary to Mexico, where steel mills, power plants and the electricity causes the greatest environmental. Over 80 percent of the pollutants emitted in 2005 to air from the North America are the responsibility of the United States of America, 12 percent is in Canada, and Mexico only 6 percent. Among the toxic substances were detected going into the atmosphere large quantities of lead, nickel, arsenic and other chemicals which are known or suspected of being carcinogenic.

How to evaluate the experts from the CEC, is that over the years 1998-2004 the amount of pollution emitted into the atmosphere from the same sites decreased by 15 percent, and the latest data confirm this trend. Interestingly, during the same period the number in the U.S. fell by 11 percent, where in Canada increased by 50 percent. According to CEC allow for similar reports, as far as follow-up of industry and assess its impact on the pollution of the environment - this type of data is invaluable in creating new strategies of environmental protection.
