One of the main components of smog - ozone - can damage the skin present in the enzyme responsible, inter alia, for the breakdown of environmental pollutants - inform researchers in the USA.  Ozone is the main component of photochemical smog - is produced in most sunny days, with a large circulation. Nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons - present in the exhaust of vehicles - in the presence of light reacts to the emergence of strong oxidants - especially ozone and formaldehyde. Photochemical smog is mainly caused by irritation to eyes, respiratory tract and damage to plants. The biggest problem is in large cities such as Los Angeles, Beijing or Mexico City.

Hasan Mukhtar and his team from the University of Wisconsin studied the impact of smog, especially present in the ozone, the sound of skin cells grown in the laboratory.  It was found that significantly increases the risk of ozone damage to cells and therefore enhances the activity of enzymes of the cytochrome 450. These proteins are necessary for skin cell metabolism of many chemicals, including toxic substances and medicines. Changes in the expression of cytochrome 450 in the skin cells are thus toxic for her.  The authors stress the need for further detailed studies in humans.
